At #4 in the #NYUAthleticsTop10 for 2016-17 is the New York University women's swimming & diving team finishing a program-best-tying eighth place at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Shenandoah, TX.
The Violets had a total of 14 representatives (13 swimmers and one diver) at Nationals. The large contingent qualified for the meet by achieving certain speed benchmarks, known as "cut" times, in particular events over the course of the season.
At the NCAA's, the Violets collected 10 All-America and 10 Honorable Mention All-America accolades. Leading the way for NYU was freshman
Honore Collins (who we'll return to later in the #NYUAthleticsTop10), who became the program's first-ever swimming national champion by winning the 200-yard IM. Fellow freshman
Kathy Lin took fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly.
All in all, the Violets totaled 122.5 points to finish eighth out of 51 teams.
NYU's 2016-17 swimmers and divers not only entered the record books for their national finish, but also for their individual times, as 10 of the 23 program records were broken by team members during the campaign.
