The NYU Team Challenge will be held on Friday, January 24, at the New Balance Track and Field Center in Manhattan. Representatives of 25 schools (NCAA Division I, II and III) and track clubs are expected to take part in the meet. Both men's and women's teams will compete in 14 individual events and two relays – 4x400m and distance medley relay.

This annual event always features a high level of competition and quality levels of performance. Notably, last year this event saw the women's 600m World and American Junior Indoor Record broken by 18-year-old Ajee Wilson.

The NYU women's team finished sixth at last year's edition of the event, while men's squad placed ninth in the team scoring. This week the Violets are looking to once again produce a strong performance and have their leaders in action.

Team senior captain Emily Cousens is undefeated in 2014 so far. She won the mile race at the NYC Gotham Cup on January 10, and the 3,000m race at the Saturday Night Shootout last Saturday, setting the NCAA Division III leading time and NYU record 9:41.11 in the latter. Following her victories, Cousens was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Athlete of the Week in consecutive weeks.

Other women's team members to look for are freshman pole vaulter Dana Placentra, who has already broken the school record twice this indoor season (3.10m and 3.15m), and team captain junior Caroline Spring, who set the 500m school record (1:18.58) at the NYU Team Challenge last year.

Men's competitors to look out for are freshmen throwers Carter Beardsley and Antony Zeng, who finished in the top-10 in both competitions this season, and the men's 4x400m relay. In distance races, look for team captain senior Ryan Gilmore (seventh in the 1,000m at the Saturday Night Shootout) and junior Sebastian Oja (ninth in the 3,000m at the Saturday Night Shootout).

The NYU Team Challenge will start at 11.30 am.
