The Academic Affairs Office (AAO) is part of the Office of Academic Program Review and reports to the Assistant Vice Provost, Ryan Poynter. The Academic Affairs Office is responsible for monitoring student athlete academic progress through a mid semester & final grade reporting. The AAO certifies and monitors student athlete eligibility per NCAA, UAA, and University regulations. In addition to monitoring, the AAO also offers academic advisement, information and resource support as well as various developmental workshops for student athletes throughout the year.
The Academic Affairs Office also supports the Athletics Department during the recruitment of prospective student athletes. The AAO tracks and advises recruits (via the NYU Athletics Coaching Staff) through the NYU Admissions process.
Our Mission:
The Academic Affairs Office staff is committed to providing an opportunity for students to simultaneously excel academically and participate in intercollegiate varsity athletics. The office provides academic support and various services designed to facilitate its goals, which include:
- Fostering a community with the highest standards of academic excellence and integrity.
- Providing supplemental academic advisement, resources, and support for current NYU students participating in NYU Varsity and select Club Sport Programs.
- Educating student athletes on the policies and procedures of the various academic and administrative departments within the University.
- Ensuring the continued academic success of our current student athletes while monitoring their individual compliance with Division III NCAA and UAA rules and regulations.
- Developing and providing programs and services that are enhancing the quality of life for the student athletes of NYU.
- Assisting the Athletics Department Staff in the proper recruitment of qualified applicants/prospective student athletes.
- Acting as the official liaison between the Athletics Department and university administrative offices such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Bursar and Housing.
