2017-18 UAA Women's Basketball Honors
Kaitlyn Read and
Kayla Patterson were each honored with postseason recognition by the University Athletic Association (UAA), it was announced on Wednesday, February 28.
Read was named the UAA Player of the Year, UAA Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-UAA, while Patterson earned Second Team All-UAA distinction.
This marked the fourth First Team All-UAA selection for Read, and it is the second time receiving Defensive Player of the Year honors (also in 2015-16). She leads the UAA in scoring (20.2 ppg) and steals (3.8 spg), and ranks second in assists (4.8 apg). The graduate student, who has played and started in 113 career games, joined former Violet Marsha Harris as the only four-time First Team All-UAA honoree in program history. Read is just the fifth Violet women's basketball player to receive the Association's Player of the Year award, putting her in good company alongside a quartet of NYU Athletics Hall of Famers (Harris, Donna Layne, Jessica McEntee, and Patti McCrudden),
Patterson is averaging a near-double-double, scoring 12.5 ppg and grabbing a team-high 9.0 rpg. Her rebound total ranks second in the UAA and she has recorded six double-doubles, including a 23-point, 19-performance against Brandeis University on January 6.
This is Patterson's first career postseason honor.
Read, Patterson and the Violets return to action this evening when they play in their fifth-straight postseason tournament. NYU will be competing in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship. The Violets face Marywood University at 7:00pm in Scranton, PA.
