WGCA Division III Award Winners
A trio of NYU women's golfers were honored by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Wednesday, May 10.
Junior
Alyssa Poentis garnered multiple awards from the Association, as she was selected Honorable Mention All-American and All-East Region. It is the third and fourth time she has received recognition from the WGCA, having earned the same two honors as a freshman.
A pair of NYU sophomores were also honored on Wednesday, as both
Jenni Bluetling and
Patty Treevichaphan earned All-East Region recognition. Bluetling also received the honor as a freshman.
"It says a lot about our program that our players are being recognized on both the national and regional levels," said Head Coach
Brad Johnson. "These young ladies have really helped make us a presence on these large stages. They have tremendous ability and the sky is the limit as to what they, and we, can achieve."
The trio of Violets are currently leading the team at the NCAA Division III Championship in Houston, TX. They are the three low scorers as NYU currently sits in sixth place in the 22-team competition. Entering Thursday's third round, Poentis is tied for 15th place (152), Bluetling is tied for 20th (155) and Treevichaphan is tied for 34th (159) in the 116-person field.
