The New York University women's golf team, ranked #3 in the nation by
Golfstat.com, claimed the Liberty League Championship after completing both rounds at the Spook Rock Course in Suffern, NY, on Saturday-Sunday, April 22-23.
The Violets, who placed four golfers in the top five, shot an overall score of 605 to cruise past the competition. They led second-place Mount Holyoke College by 43 strokes.
"It was a great event," said Head Coach
Brad Johnson. "To have all of our players finishing in the top of the Liberty League competition shows how consistent we are. We are so proud to represent this conference at the NCAA Championship."
Junior
Alyssa Poentis and freshman
Arisa Kimura finished as co-individual champions by finishing with a two-round score of 149. Sophomore
Jenni Bluetling added to the riches, following in third place with an overall score of 151 (75-76).
"We had great co-conference winners. It bodes well for us leading into the national championship in two weeks," said Johnson.
Sophomore
Patty Treevichaphan secured fourth place, tying Vassar College's Andrea Han. Both golfers shot a score of 156 through two days.
Junior
Kristin Lee closed out the Violets' lineup by shooting a score of 162 (79-83) to place into a tie for 10th.
NYU will return to action in three weeks at the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship. The four-day, 72-hole event will be held from Tuesday-Friday, May 9-12, at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX.
"The girls are ready. We cannot wait to get to Houston," said Johnson. "We also would like to say thank you to all the workers out there that helped run a spectacular conference championship."
