ResultsThe New York University men's and women's swimming & diving teams each defeated Springfield College on Saturday, January 17, in Springfield, MA. The men earned the 202.5-91.5 victory, while the women defeated the Pride 187-108.
Both NYU squads entered the dual meet ranked #6 in the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) rankings and are each now 7-0 on the season.
Emily Doerner and
Isabelle Kitze helped lead the women to victory on Saturday. Doerner placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (59.73) and 100-yard butterfly (59.33). The senior captain was also a member of two first-place relays -- 400-yard medley relay (4:02.70) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42.93). Kitze joined Doerner on the 400-yard medley relay, while placing first individually in the 100-yard freestyle (55.22) and 200-yard freestyle (1:57.68).
For the men,
Ethan Louie took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:08.38) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.25). He also participated on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:15.65) along with
Win Htet Oo,
Harrison Clewell and
Chad Moody.
Jerry Crowley won the 50-yard freestyle (21.31) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.45). The senior captain also participated on the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:33.30) along with fellow senior captain
Matt Kendall,
Adam Betts and
Daniel Tay.
In addition to swimming,
Austen Blease and
Austin Campitelli swept their respective diving competitions to help lead both squads to victory. Blease recorded a one-meter score of 326.75 and a three-meter score of 324.65 for the men, while Campitelli scored 275.25 in the one meter and 267.95 in the three meter for the women.
"Springfield has one of the best diving programs in the country," said NYU Diving Coach
Scott Donie. "To come in here and sweep every event is a great accomplishment. I'm really proud of our divers and I'm looking forward to getting back to work as we prepare for our next meet."
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:-
Lexi Faunce won the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle races, posting times of 5:18.87 and 10:48.97, respectively.

Anne Driscoll and
Yui Umezawa were victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.94) and 200-yard backstroke (2:13.67), respectively.

Elise Gibbs was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay squad, while also placing first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.20).
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS: - Moody, along with participating on the winning 400-yard free relay team, won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.04.
- Kendall also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.21) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.99).
"We have been working really hard in the pool and the weight room, so the team is pretty tired and banged up," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "I think they did well to get up and race, and I am happy we were able to walk away with wins."
The men's team will next compete on Friday, January 23, against host United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, and both NYU teams will host Iona College on Saturday, January 24, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan. Saturday will also be NYU's Family and Senior Day.
