Ryan Tana of the New York University men's basketball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Monday, February 24.
The award is the senior co-captain's first of his career, and it came after one of his best individual weekends as a collegiate student-athlete.
The 6-foot-1 guard registered game-high point totals in both contests this weekend. The Belmont, CA, native began with a career night in Atltanta, GA, on Friday, February 21. Although the Violets fell at Emory University 86-77, Tana poured in a career-best 31 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. He shot 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the foul line.
On Sunday, February 23, Tana continued his hot streak with 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The senior led NYU to an 81-64 victory over the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. He was once again very efficient from long range, this time shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from three.
For the weekend, Tana finished 11-of-13 from beyond the arc and now stands in a position to finish his career as NYU's all-time leader in three-point shooting percentage.
Tana and the rest of the Violets will be back in action for their final regular season match-up of the season when they travel to Waltham, MA, for a 2:00 pm scheduled tip at Brandeis University.
