The New York University women's tennis team opened play at the University Athletic Association Championship (UAA) with a 9-0 loss to Emory University on Thursday, April 25, in Altamonte Springs, FL.
NYU (5-4), ranked #18 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Women's Northeast Regional Rankings, are seeded #8 in the eight-team UAA Championship.
Emory (11-4) is top-seeded and ranked #3 in the nation by the ITA.
NOTABLES:
-
Alison Wang, playing at #1 doubles and #2 singles, was NYU's top performer. She and partner
Ashley Masanto lost an 8-3 doubles match, while Wang was the only Violet to capture at least three games in any singles match.
- The Violets entered the UAA's on a four-match winning streak.
- NYU will face #5 Case Western Reserve University in the consolation semifinals on Friday at 2:00pm.
- "Emory is the top seed for a reason," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We played hard, and stroke-wise there was not much difference. However, they came to the net more and put pressure on us. They were more aggressive and put themselves into positions to win points with less shots."
