Famed sportscaster Kenny Albert, who has called all four professional major sports during a career spanning two decades, will be returning to New York University to announce the Violets' basketball doubleheader vs. Washington University on Friday, February 15.
A 1990 graduate of NYU, Albert worked in the sports department at WNYU Radio during his time as an undergraduate. He frequently served as a broadcaster for NYU's basketball games at the Coles Sports Center – a duty he will return to more than 20 years later on Friday.
Since graduating from NYU, Albert's voice has become recognizable to sports fans across the country. He has done NFL play-by-play on FOX for 19 seasons, including the last six seasons on the network's #2 crew. He is also currently in his 17th season as the radio play-by-play voice of the New York Rangers.
Albert has also called Major League Baseball on various FOX networks for the last 16 seasons, as well as men's and women's ice hockey for NBC at the Winter Olympics in 2002, 2006 and 2010. He has called play-by-play for the 1994 and 1995 Stanley Cup Finals on NHL Radio; the 2007 and 2009 Sugar Bowls, 2008 Orange Bowl, 2008 Pro Bowl, and 2011 Cotton Bowl for FOX; the "world feed" of Super Bowl XLVI in February 2012; select New York Knicks games on MSG Network; and the NHL on FOX, Versus and NBC Sports Network. From 1992-95, Albert was the television voice of the Washington Capitals following two seasons as radio voice of the American Hockey League's Baltimore Skipjacks.
A 1990 graduate of NYU, the three-time Sports Emmy Award winner lives in New Jersey with his wife, Barbara, and daughters Amanda and Sydney.
"I have great memories of calling men's and women's basketball games on WNYU Radio from 1986 through 1990,” said Albert. “Coles was a home away from home, and I gained invaluable experience working not only as a play-by-broadcaster, but various other positions – color analyst, statistician, engineer – during my college years. I look forward to returning on February 15!"
The basketball doubleheader, which is also a
Tear It Up! event, begins at 6:00 pm on Friday with the women taking on 13th-ranked Washington. The men will then face the 17th-ranked Bears at 8:00 pm.
