Department of Athletics Co-Sponsoring Invisible Athlete Forum

Forum Will Focus on LGBT Issues in Sports

The New York University Department of Athletics is co-sponsoring the Invisible Athlete Forum, a panel discussion being held on Thursday, January 31, at the Rosenthal Pavilion in the Kimmel Center.

Athletics is co-sponsoring the forum, which is being presented by the You Can Play Project, with the Center for Multicultural Education & Programs (CMEP) and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Student Center (LGBTQ).

Gay athletes, straight allies and the issue of homophobia in sports will be the focus of the NYU edition of the You Can Play Project's Invisible Athlete forums.

The You Can Play Project, co-founded by Patrick Burke, a scout for the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, is dedicated to ensuring LGBT equality in sports.

Burke will serve as the forum's moderator, which will also feature panelists Angela Hucles, former member of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team; Wade Davis, former NFL cornerback; and David Farber, former captain of the University of Pennsylvania hockey team.

The Invisible Athlete Forum will take place from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Rosenthal Pavilion. RSVPs are strongly encouraged. RSVP at http://bit.ly/invisibleathleteRSVP.
