Rippe Earns First Team Academic All-District Honors

Swimmer Advances to Academic All-America Ballot

2012 Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Teams

Recent New York University graduate and four-year member of the women's swimming & diving team Molly Rippe was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, May 17.

A history and sociology double major who graduated from NYU's College of Arts and Science this week, Rippe was named First Team Academic All-District 3, which consists of all Division III schools in the state of New York. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore; have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or better; and be a starter or significant reserve on his or her team.

Eligible sports for the At-Large Team are bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.

Rippe now advances to the national ballot, where she will be considered for Academic All-America status.

A four-year standout in the pool for the Violets, Rippe was a three-time NCAA Honorable Mention All-American in the 1,650-yard freestyle, achieving the feat as a freshman, sophomore and senior. This past season, she placed 11th in the event at the NCAA Division III Championships, tied for her best national finish.

Rippe was also the University Athletic Association (UAA) Champion in the 1,650 free as a freshman and garnered Third Team All-UAA accolades in the event as a sophomore. She ended her outstanding career in possession of four school records: the 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free, and 800 free relay.

Rippe also piled up the academic honors in her four years at NYU. She was a three-time College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Honorable Mention Scholar All-American and earned Capital One Third Team Academic All-District accolades last season. This past winter, Rippe received NYU's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award for her commitment to sportsmanship and community service.
