The New York University wrestling team went 2-2 at the Centennial Conference Duals, which were held Saturday, February 4, in Lexington, VA.
 
NYU beat Muhlenberg College 45-12 and Washington and Lee University 36-16, but fell short against Ursinus College and McDaniel College, 30-9 and 23-15, respectively.
 
In the first dual of the day, NYU squared off against Muhlenburg. After taking a quick 12-0 lead due to forfeits, NYU's Matt DiGiovanni pinned his opponent in the 141-pound division, recording his seventh fall of the season. NYU then won five of the next seven matches to cap a strong start to the day.
 
Carrying its momentum from the first dual, the NYU grapplers took an early 6-0 lead against Washington and Lee. However, the Generals responded with the next 10 points. Dan Gorman cut the lead to just one after he handled his opponent in the 149-pound division. Then, wins by David Rice (165), Pat Sheehan (174) and Dan Brereton (184) clinched NYU's second victory in as many duals.

"We can't be too upset with two victories," said head coach Bruce Haberli, "we wrestling tough and we are going to continue to improve our weaknesses".
 
After a strong 2-0 start, NYU fell to both Ursinus and McDaniel. However, David Rice (3-0), Pat Sheehan (2-0), Gregg Martino (1-0), and Jake Pawlowski (3-0) all had perfect days on the mat.

"I was especially pleased with Jake's performance," noted coach Haberli, "he's going to be a big part of our success in the next few weeks."
 
Finishing 2-2 on the day, NYU sits at 8-9 on the season and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference.
 
NYU will travel to Case Western Reserve University to compete in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship next Saturday, Feb. 11, in Cleveland, OH.
