New York University senior volleyball player Luke Hamlet was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Week following his outstanding performances in the Violets' opening two matches of the season.

The 6-7 opposite/middle blocker was instrumental in NYU going 1-1 at the Rutgers-Newark Golden Dome Classic last weekend.

On Friday, Hamlet had 15 kills and hit .533 in the Violets' five-set loss to the host Scarlet Raiders. On Saturday, he had 10 kills and hit .421 in a four-set victory over Hunter College.

This is the first-ever AVCA Player of the Week honor for Hamlet.

The Violets return to action on Wednesday, January 25, when they face Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
