Freshman Andrew Ark of the New York University men's fencing team was chosen University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Monday, January 23, after an impressive performance over the weekend.

Ark went 11-5 in foil on Sunday while facing some of the stiffest competition in the nation, as NYU hosted #4 University of Notre Dame, #5 Ohio State University, #6 St. John's University, #10 Yale University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and Wayne State University.

Ark posted a perfect 3-0 record against #6 St. John's, as well as a perfect 2-0 mark against #10 Yale. He went 2-1 vs. #5 Ohio State and Wayne State, and also picked up one win apiece against #4 Notre Dame and UNC.

Led by Ark, the Violets finished the day with a 1-5 record, earning their lone win 14-13 over Wayne State.

This is Ark's first career UAA Athlete of the Week award.

NYU returns to the strip on Saturday, February 4, at the Brandeis/MIT Invitational in Waltham, MA.
