Jessica McEntee, a former All-American for the Violets, has been named as an assistant coach of the New York University women's basketball team. Her responsibilities will include recruiting, skill development of the team's post players, game scouting, and practice planning.
A 2009 graduate of NYU's College of Arts and Science with a Bachelors of Arts degree in economics, McEntee returns to her alma matter as one of the most decorated players in team history. A four-year player, she finished her career ranked third all-time in scoring (1,711) and second in rebounding (1,133). McEntee compiled 50 double-doubles in 108 career games and graduated as the team's career leader in free throws made (678), free throws attempted (837) and free throw percentage (81.0). She is one of only three Violets, male or female, to compile more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds.
A two-year captain, McEntee helped lead the Violets to a 82-28 (.745) record, three NCAA Tournament appearances (including the Final Four in 2007 and Sweet Sixteen in 2009), and a University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Championship in 2007. During her career, McEntee garnered numerous All-America Accolades (D3hoops.com First Team '07, '09), Women's DIII News Second Team '06, '07, Player of the Year '09, D3hoops.com Second Team '06, First Team '09, Kodak/WBCA Division III '06, '09). She was named Player of the Year by Women's DIII News her senior year; the UAA (three times) D3Hoops.com East Region as a senior, ECAC Division III Metro Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior, and Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) Division III Player of the Year honor in 2007 and 2009.
“Hiring someone from the NYU family is very special to me,” said head coach Stefano Trompeo. “Adding someone with a strong passion for the program and sport will add positive energy amongst our players. Jess knows what it takes to compete in the UAA and nationally at a high level, and I am excited for her to help teach the present and future of NYU basketball.
McEntee served as an assistant coach for the girls' varsity basketball team at her high school alma mater, Archbishop Molloy, in 2010-11. She helped lead the team to the New York State Federation Class A Championship, the first such title won by the team since McEntee's junior year.
After graduating, McEntee worked as a realtor in Bayside, NY, doing residential and commercial real estate, as well as rentals. She also competed in the NYC Nautica Triathlon last summer and plans to compete again in 2011.
"I am very excited to have an opportunity to join the NYU women's basketball staff and be part of the program once again,” McEntee said. “My focus will be on helping our student-athletes reach their full potential and truly enjoy their experience at NYU."
McEntee is a native and resident of Flushing, NY.
