MBB Gets Involved in Pink Zone 2-11-11

NYU Pink Zone Wrap-Up

Event Raises over $2,500 for Cancer Research

On February 11, NYU's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the fourth annual Pink Zone event. Every February, one basketball doubleheader is dedicated to raising money and awareness for breast cancer research. This year's event was the most successful yet, as the students and fans in attendance raised $2,534 to benefit the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.

“It was great to see not only the athletics community but also the broader NYU community in general come out to support a great cause,” said Matt Stieve, the SAAC President.

SAAC members spent most of the week before the event handing out flyers and advertising across campus. Obviously, their advertising efforts were hugely successful.

The men's and women's basketball players showed their support for the event by wearing the Pink Zone tie-dye t-shirt during warm-ups.

“I thought Pink Zone was a great success. We were able to raise a lot of money while also getting a lot of students out to attend the game,” said Jude Dworaczyk, SAAC Vice President and a member of the men's basketball team. “From a players' perspective, we always look forward to Pink Zone and wearing the pink shirts! It was great that we were able to send the seniors out with a win for their last Tear It Up!”

As exciting as all of the Tear It Up! events are throughout the year, the Pink Zone event is always popular because of the great cause it benefits. Pink Zone has become a great NYU Athletics tradition and serves as a testament to the dedicated student-athletes that put on the event.

There is one remaining Tear It Up! event this year on April 8 at the men's volleyball match against Harvard University.
