Loughney Receives UAA Honor

Basketball Player Named Athlete of the Week for First Time

On Monday, February 7, Kelly Loughney received University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors for women's basketball. The freshman forward had a stellar weekend, averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 72.2% (13-for-18) from the floor. Her performance helped lead the Violets to a 1-1 weekend record.

Loughney notched nine points and five rebounds in NYU's 64-46 loss to the University of Rochester on Friday night. She followed that performance with a career day at Emory, recording her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. The Violets went on to win the game 81-76.

Loughney leads the UAA in field-goal percentage. She also ranks second in rebounding and fourth in blocked shots.

This award is Loghney's first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.

The Violets return to action on Friday, Feb 11, when they host Case Western Reserve at the Coles Sports Center. Tip-off is at 6:00 pm.
