Men's Basketball Earns ECAC Bid

Eighth-Seeded Violets to Face St. Joseph's-LI on Wednesday

For the fifth straight year, the New York University men's basketball team is headed to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metropolitan Tournament.

The Violets earned the eighth and final seed in the eight-team postseason tournament after posting a 15-10 regular-season record in 2010-11. They will travel to top-seeded St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Wednesday for a first-round game slated to begin at 8:00 pm.

The Golden Eagles went 22-6 during the regular season and 16-4 in the Skyline Conference. They advanced to the Championship Game of the Skyline Tournament, falling 81-66 to SUNY Purchase, which earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

NYU and St. Joseph's have met seven times, once each season from 2001-02 to 2007-08. The final two contests were both ECAC Metro first-round games, with the first played in Manhattan and the most recent in Patchogue. The Violets won both of those ECAC contests and all five regular-season meetings, giving them a 7-0 all-time mark against the Golden Eagles.

NYU has had tremendous success in its recent trips to the ECAC Metro Tournament. The Violets won the Championship in 2006-07 and reached the Championship Game in 2008-09. They have won at least one game in the tournament each of the last four years.

Overall, this is NYU's 13th trip to ECAC's.

The full first-round schedule is below. The top remaining seed after the first-round games will host both the semifinals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
