Women's Volleyball Climbs in Rankings

Violets Move Up to #19 in Nation

The Violets rose two spots in the rankings as Dunn was named UAA Co-Athlete of the Week.

The New York University women's volleyball team climbed two places in the most recent AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Following the Violets' 5-0 weekend at the season-opening NYU Labor Day Invitational, the squad rose from #21 to #19 in the national rankings.

Led by University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Athlete of the Week, middle blocker Kendyl Dunn, the Violets won all 15 sets en route to winning the Invitational title.

Dunn, who was named Most Valuable Player, led the Violets in kills, hitting percentage and points over the weekend.  She tallied 66 kills (4.40 k/s) with a .536 hitting percentage and eight blocks, including two solos.  Dunn recorded a weekend-best 19 kills and hit .615 vs. SUNY Brockport, then compiled 14 kills and hit .591 as NYU defeated FDU-Florham in the championship match.

Three other UAA schools (Washington University in St. Louis, Emory University, University of Chicago) are also ranked in the poll.

The Violets return to the court this weekend when they compete at the Nazareth Golden Flyer Invitational in Rochester, NY, beginning on Friday at 4 pm.
