Women's 4K Results

Led by first-place finishers Emily Cousens and Hannah Satzke, the #27 New York University women's cross country team won both the 4K and 6K events at the Stevens Invitational on Friday, September 24, at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ.

The Violets placed first out of nine teams in the 4K while landing three runners in the top five – all of whom ran career bests.  Cousens crossed the finish line first with a time of 14:40.10, roughly 1:15 faster than her time at the season-opening Monmouth Kickoff.

Paige Zelinsky followed in second, coming in at 14:44.89, and Lorraine Brancale took fifth (fourth out of scoring runners) with a time of 15:09.82, besting her time in the event at the Monmouth Kickoff by roughly 52 seconds.  The trio combined to give NYU a team score of 7.

Katherine Calder added a 14th-place finish with a time of 16:18.25, more than 40 seconds better than her previous best.  In her first action as a Violet, Ana Scienski (17:07.12) finished 22nd overall, while Amanda Gaffney (19:47.47) was more than two minutes faster than she was at the Monmouth Kickoff.

NYU beat out host Stevens Institute of Technology in the 6K with three of the top four finishers.  Running the event for the first time this year, Satzke finished first with a time of 23:58.61.

Maeve Evans followed in second with a time of 23:59.15, and Laura Santoski rounded out the scoring with a fourth-place time of 24:52.55, giving the Violets a team score of 7.

Audrey Vera (NYU-best 25:36.22), Emily Olsen (25:45.39), Natalie Helpern (25:46.53) and Gabriella Gjonaj (26:49.82) finished sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

NYU returns to action on October 8 at the New York Metropolitan Championship at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, NY.  The race is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
