In a combined race at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ, on Friday, September 24, the #11 New York University men's cross country team won at both the 6K and 4K distances as part of the Stevens Invitational.
 
The entire squad ran in one race, but the paths were altered for the different distances.

A total of eight teams ran the 6K distance, while nine ran 4K.

In the 6K race, the Violets captured the first nine spots led by individual champion Andrew Zitek.  He covered the distance in a time of 19:14.52.

Placing right behind Zitek was Matt Turlip at 19:16.98.

The third finisher for NYU was Kevin Bonilla (19:21.09), followed by Ryan Boyd (19:25.83) and Kyle DeLeon (19:30.21).

Only the first three places were counted in the team standings as the Violets compiled the minimum six points.

Host Stevens Tech placed second (24 points), with Middlesex County Community College taking third (47 points).

The Violets dominated the 4K race, as well, with three runners finishing among the top four.

Ross Wistar placed second overall, finishing in a time of 12:29.26.

Michael Caracappa took third place with a time of 12:41.73, while Steven Au-Yeung was fourth in 12:44.25.

The trio combined for a nine-point total to win the race for NYU.

SUNY New Paltz, which had the individual winner (Joe Gentach, 12:12.08) placed second with 14 points, while John Jay College was third with 45 points. 
 
NYU returns to action on October 8 at the New York Metropolitan Championship at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, NY.  The race is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
