Three Violets to Compete at National Championships

Turlip, Lee, McKinney Hope to Earn All-American Honors

Already an indoor All-American, Turlip will be chasing outdoor honors, as well.

Three members of the New York University men's track & field team will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, which will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 27-29, at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH.

Leading the way for the Violets' contingent will be junior Matt Turlip, who is ranked seventh nationally in the 1,500 meters. He set his qualifying time of 3:50.21 at the Princeton University Sam Howell Invitational on Apr. 2.

The time trials for the 1,500m are set for Thursday at 4:35 pm, with the final taking place on Saturday at 1:30pm.

Senior Calvin Lee will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His season-best time of 9:09.31 places him 13th in the nation. He set that mark at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet on May 10.

The steeplechase is scheduled to be run at 6:05pm on Friday.

Freshman Daniel McKinney will cap his excellent rookie season by competing in the 400 meters. His time of 48.27, set at the Princeton University Elite Meet on May 1, ranks him 18th in the nation heading into the NCAA's.

Time trials for the 400m are set for Friday at 4:25 pm, with the final taking place on Saturday at 2:20pm.
