As part of the two-day workshop series, Lauren spent most of the first day at the Coles Sports Center presenting to individual teams in an informal and open forum so that students felt comfortable asking sport-specific questions. Later that evening, Lauren met with a larger group comprised of both varsity and club-sport athletes, presenting on topics such as daily nutrition needs, pre-exercise fueling, hydration needs, nutrition during competition, post-workout/meet/game recovery, ideal body weight, and supplement use in college. An outline of this presentation is available on the AAO – Student-Athlete Blackboard Site or by contacting the Academic Affairs Office - Graduate Assistant, Stephanie Jackson at 212.998.2069 or saj262@nyu.edu.
On the second day of the workshop, Cristina Rivera MS, RD met with a group of coaches and athletics administrators. Cristina focused on what coaches and staff can do to enforce and monitor good nutrition and hydration practices amongst college student-athletes. She reviewed some of the information covered by Lauren during the student portion of the workshop and provided resources and materials for coaches to take back to their teams.
