The New York University women's golf team battled some cool spring weather and some of the top teams on the East Coast on Saturday at Amherst College's Jack Leaman Championship in Amherst, MA.

After the first round of play, the Violets sit in ninth place overall after combining for a 362 on the 5,811-yard, par-74 Hickory Ridge Golf Club course. Amherst and Wellesley College lead the tournament with scores of 336.

“Overall, we're not disappointed but we can play better,” said NYU assistant coach Matt Huck. “It was drizzling and cool compared to the past few weekends. Overall it's been a good spring. But, we just haven't played in this type of weather.”

Freshman Jiye Kim tallied the low round of the day for NYU by firing an 86. Her score puts her in a tie for 21st place overall heading into play on Sunday.

Junior Theresa Apoznanski was right on Kim's heels with an 87, which was good enough to put her in a tie for 25th place.

Rounding out the scoring for NYU were freshmen Sarah Utz (94, t-48th) and Charlotte Abrams (95, t-51st). Playing as an individual, sophomore Meaghan Kenny posted a score of 93 to come in a tie for 44th place.

The Violets will return to action Sunday as they tee off at The Orchards Golf Course in South Hadley, MA. Final results will be available on goNYUathletics.com.
