On Tuesday, April 13, the New York University men's volleyball topped New Jersey Institute of Technology in straight sets to finish its 2010 campaign with a 6-17 (2-6 EIVA Hay Division) record.
Despite the fact that the Violets won 3-0 (32-30, 30-17, 30-28), two of the sets were decided by a combined four points.
NYU was able to hold its own late in the first set to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Violets took control, recording an attack percentage of .400 to their opponent's -.031.
Senior captain Mike Ferragonio ended his collegiate career with 14 kills, to bring his senior-year total to 222. He also added 10 digs.
Sophomore Pat Dodd contributed 14 kills to go along with seven digs. Dodd and junior captain Fran Hodgson were each in on six blocks as well.
Freshman Trevor Salter notched a game-high 46 assists for the Violets.
Christian Puszies recorded 11 kills and Matthew Lui posted 18 assists for NJIT.
"We gutted out a win today," said NYU head coach Jose Pina. "NJIT was looking for a win because they were still alive in the EIVA, but we stopped them."
Although the loss of Ferragonio to graduation will sting, the Violets will return all other key members of the sqaud for 2011.
