Violets Take Fifth at Palamountain Invite

Leibfried Shoots Low Score for Violets with 77 on Second Day.

The New York University men's golf squad finished in fifth place at the Skidmore College Joseph C. Palamountain Invitational, which was held Sunday and Monday, April 11-12, in Saratoga Springs, NY.

In the second round, the Violets shot 323 for a two-day total of 633 at the 6,600-yard, par-72 McGregor Golf Links. Skidmore, ranked #4 in the Golf World/Nike Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, maintained its first round lead to win comfortably with a total score of 596.

NYU senior Mike Leibfried shot two strokes better on Monday by firing a 77. His two-round total of 156 placed him in a tie for 15th place in a field of 68.

Sophomore Matt Riccio struggled a bit on his second 18 holes of the invite after leading the Violets after the first day. His tally of 159 (76, 83) placed him in a tie for 22nd place.

Rounding out the team scoring for NYU were juniors David Su (160, 27th place) and Ben Kleiner (163, t-35th place).

The Violets will return to the links next weekend at the Johnson & Wales College University Invitational in Cranston, RI.
