Women Finish Sixth at UAA Track & Field Championships

Santoski Places Second in 3,000 and Evans Scores Twice on Saturday

The New York University women's track & field team finished in sixth place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships, which were held at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, on Friday and Saturday, March 5-6.

Laura Santoski had the Violets' top performance on Saturday, placing second in the 3,000 meters with a career-best time of 10:19.29. Kirsten Keller also posted a personal-best in the race, finishing sixth  with a time of 10:23.79.

Maeve Evans established a new team record for the second consecutive day. On Saturday, she set the Violets' mile record with a fourth-place time of 5:00.17. The former record, 5:06.95, was set by Joan Kanarkiewicz last season.    

Evans, who ran a team-record 2:17.81 In a preliminary heat of the 800 meters on Friday, finished fifth in the finals (2:18.98) on Saturday.  Her record time was two seconds better than the 2:19.85 mark set by Jamie Jones in 2003.

Two other team records were established on Friday's first day of competition.

The distance medley relay team finished fifth as Kanarkiewicz, Winnie Nwapa, Hannah Satzke, and Santoski crossed the tape in a record time of 12:24.83. The old mark of 12:29.46 was set last season. Kanarkiewicz and Santoski, who ran a 5:04 split as anchor,  were also members of that team.  

In the pole vault on Friday, Carla Stachurski reached a height of 2.75 meters (9'-1/4") to set another school record, breaking Jackie Orlando's 2005 mark of 2.65 meters (8'8-1/4")  

Also on Friday, Keller had the team's best finish with her third-place showing (17:36.11) in the 5,000 meters.  Kerra Vick added a fifth-place finish in the event with a season-best time of 17:52.24.

Overall, NYU totaled 25 points at the seven-team meet.

The University of Chicago won the competition with 146 points.
