After the first round of the McDaniel College Spring Invitational, New York University junior Theresa Apoznanski and freshman Sarah Utz of the women's golf team showed no signs of rust in the first tournament of the spring season as they are both in contention for the top individual title.
Apoznanski and Utz each battled for an 86 at the par 72, 5,809-yard Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA. They are in a four-way tie for third place after the first day of competition.
Alex Battle of St. John Fisher College leads the tournament with a plus-seven 79, seven shots ahead of Apoznanski and Utz.
In a field of seven teams, NYU is in second place after the first of two rounds with a combined team score of 355 (plus-67). The Violets are only three strokes behind leader SUNY Cortland (352) and two strokes ahead of host McDaniel College (357).
Rounding out the scoring for NYU were freshmen Jiye Kim (90, t-14th) and Charlotte Abrams (93, t-19th).
