Dietz Garners Ninth UAA Award

Sophomore Diver Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Dietz was named an Honorable Mention All-American in two diving events.

On Monday, March 22, New York University sophomore Kelly Dietz was named the University Athletic Assocation (UAA) Athlete of the Week for women's diving.

The latest honor for the Clifton, VA, native follows top performances in both diving events at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at Beloit College on March 17-20. On the opening day of competition, Dietz took 13th place in the one-meter dive with a score of 402.95 points. By landing within spots 9-16, she earned Honorable Mention All-America honors, the first such award of her career.

Two days later, Dietz repeated the honor by posting a 12th-place total of 437.60 points in the three-meter event.

"Overall, a great season and a great NCAA performance for Kelly," said NYU diving coach Scott Donie after the meet. "She was steady in all of her dives and had a spectacular performance in her first national competition. I'm looking forward to another strong season for her next year."

Dietz has now been named the UAA Athlete of the Week nine times this season. With her consistent scores, she helped lead the 2009-10 Violet squad to an 8-1 dual-meet record and a third-place finish at the UAA Championships (2/17-20).
