Dietz, Rippe Notch Honorable Mention All-America Honors

Violets Finish 40th at NCAA Championships

By landing in the top 16, Dietz secured All-American status in both diving events.

On Saturday, March 20, New York University sophomores Kelly Dietz and Molly Rippe helped lead the Violets to a 40th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at Beloit College in Minneapolis, MN.

Behind the sophomore tandem, NYU posted a total of 12 points.

On Saturday, Dietz took 12th-place in the three-meter dive with a season-high mark of 437.60. By finishing within spots 9-16 in the thee-meter dive, she secured Honorable Mention All-American status. Two days earlier, she notched the the first such honor of her career in the one-meter dive, with a 13th-place score of 402.95.

"Overall, a great season and a great NCAA performance for Kelly," said NYU diving coach Scott Donie. "She was steady in all of her dives and had a spectacular performance in her first national competition. I'm looking forward to another strong season for her next year."

On the swimming side, Rippe garnered Honorable Mention All-American honors on Saturday with a 14th-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle (17:20.14). Earlier in competition, she also recorded a 27th-place time of 5:04.46 in the preliminary round of the 500 freestyle and a 50th-place time of 1:57.16 in the 200 freestyle. 

Freshman Tatum Gormley posted a 20th-place finish in the 400 individual medley preliminaries (4:33.86) on Thursday. She also claimed 41st place in the 100 butterfly (59.36) and took 40th place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:11.83.

Only the top 16 finishers in each preliminary event advances to the finals.

University Athletic Association (UAA) powerhouse Emory University took the top spot at the NCAA Championships with a total of 568.5 points.

NYU finishes the 2009-10 season with a 8-1 dual-meet record and a third-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships (3/17-20).
