Junior Byron Neslund and freshman Phil Jamesson have been named University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Athletes of the Week in men’s fencing for their contribution to NYU’s performance at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday, March 14, at Brown University.
Both Neslund and Jamesson qualified for the NCAA Men’s Fencing Championship based on their performance in men’s epee and foil, respectively. The NCAA Championship is scheduled for March 25-28 at Harvard University in Boston, MA.
Jamesson and Neslund were the top performers for the entire Violet team, placing fifth in the men’s foil and men’s epee competitions. This marks the first NCAA berth for both fencers.
Jamesson has been difficult to defeat this year in foil, as he leads NYU with a 42-19 record. Neslund is third on the team in wins with a record of 32-25.
The UAA Athlete of the Week honor is the fifth of Jamesson’s career and the first for Neslund this season and third of his career.
