After going 16-9 during the regular season, the New York University men's basketball team earned the #2 seed in the eight-team 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metropolitan Tournament. The Violets will host #7 New Jersey City University at the Coles Sports Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3.
NYU will provide live stats and a video webcast Wednesday.
This is the fourth straight season NYU has garnered an ECAC invitation, a streak that includes winning the championship in 2007 and reaching the championship game in 2009. The Violets have advanced to the semifinals in each of their three prior appearances.
NYU is led by Keith Jensen (14.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 45.6 FG%, 39.3 3FG%, 80.6 FT%), who became the men's basketball program's 25th 1,000-point scorer Saturday at Brandeis University. Andy Stein (10.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 50.2 FG%) is enjoying his finest season, while Carl Yaffe (10.0 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 46.6 FG%, 37.2 3FG%) is the first Violet rookie to average double digits in scoring since Jason Boone in 2003-04.
Perennially one of the region's most consistent programs, New Jersey City went 13-12 and 5-8 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), a league that sent three teams to the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships. Josh Lopez (12.3 ppg) is the Gothic Knights' top scorer, while Isaiah Johnson (7.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg) was named the NJAC Rookie of the Year.
Old Westbury earned the top seed in the ECAC Metro Tournament. The top remaining seed after Wednesday's first round games will host both the semifinals on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday.
