The New York University women's swimming & diving team could not be stopped in the first half of its season en route to a 6-0 dual-meet record and a first-place finish at the MIT Invitational. The Violets will look to continue that trend in 2010 when they begin the year at the Fort Lauderdale Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 9.

NYU has not been challenged all season long winning each meet in convincing fashion, with the exception of the Princeton University Invitational (11/13-14). There was no team scoring at Princeton, which featured four Division I swimming & diving programs.

The Violets will use the competition on Saturday as a push for three key upcoming matches. To end its dual-meet season, NYU faces Springfield College (1/16), The College of New Jersey (1/23) and Vassar College (1/30). Springfield dealt the Violets their only loss of the 2008-09 season, a 124-119 setback.

If NYU finishes the season undefeated in dual-meet competition, it would be the third time in head coach Lauren Beam's storied career. She also led perfect Violet campaigns in 2005-06 (8-0) and 2007-08 (11-0). Furthermore, she currently holds a NYU career coaching record of 53-3 (.946).

The Fort Lauderdale Invitational will start at 10:00am on Saturday. Results will be available on goNYUathletics.com.
