On Saturday, Jan. 30, the New York University women's swimming & diving team cruised to a convincing 177-65 victory over host Vassar College. The Violets (8-1) won with depth, as five different swimmers garnered individual victories.
NYU got off to a quick start, claiming victory in the first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay (1:55.14). Freshmen Noel Elgamal, Tatum Gormley and Claire Stephens, as well as junior Chelsea Pfohl swam that relay.
Gormley led all NYU swimmers with two individual wins. She posted first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:00.15) and the 200 backstroke (2:17.14). Elgamal added a victory in the 200 butterfly (2:17.34), while Pfohl topped the field in the 100 freestyle race (55.83).
Other top performances included junior Molly Rippe's victory in the 500 freestyle (5:16.55) and junior Alexandra Strzempko's victory in the 1,000 freestyle (11:03.67).
In the last event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay, Elgamal, Stephens, sophomore Kristen Fujii and freshman Savanna Keator posted the victory for NYU (1:42.97).
Violet sophomore Kelly Dietz won both diving events. She posted totals of 274.57 in the one-meter dive and 265.05 in the three-meter dive, both NCAA-qualifying totals.
With the dual-meet season completed, head coach Lauren Beam and the Violets can now look forward to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Feb. 17-20.
"We had some different people step up today and that was great," Beam said. "Now everything we do will be geared towards UAA's. Overall, though, I'm happy with our dual-meet season."
