Behind a game-closing 11-1 run, the University of Rochester handed New York University a 63-59 defeat in University Athletic Association (UAA) women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center.

NYU (9-7, 1-4 UAA) led 58-52 after a Hailey Kimball three-pointer with 4:47 left, but managed only a free throw by Chrissy Kilmurray, who finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double this season, the rest of the way.

Meanwhile, Melissa Alwardt, who finished with a game-high 20 points along with eight rebounds, netted six of her tallies as the Yellowjackets (13-3, 3-2 UAA) pulled away. After Kate Agan's lay-up gave Rochester the lead for good, 59-58, with 3:43 to go, a free throw by Jackie Walker preceded a three-ball by Alwardt that made it 63-58 with 1:51 left.

At the outset, NYU jumped out to an 18-6 lead as Grace Carmen hit two three-pointers.  Carmen scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half.

After the Violets extended their cushion to 31-18, Alwardt produced all eight of her first-half points during a 12-3 burst that got the Yellowjackets within 34-30 at the break.

Emily Foshag added 10 points for NYU, which shot 31.8% overall (21-for-66) and went 9-for-36 in the second half.

Jodie Luther had 14 points for the Yellowjackets, who shot 44.6% (25-for-56) and owned a 46-38 rebounding advantage.

NYU will look to continue its winning streak at home against Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, Jan. 29. The game is also a Tear It Up! event and will begin at 6 p.m.
