Prior to New York University's women's and men's basketball doubleheader against University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Emory University on Friday night, NYU will honor women's basketball standout Emily Foshag and men's basketball senior co-captain Omar Meziab with the Martin Luther King, Jr., Humanitarian Award prior to the Violets' 6 p.m. women's game.  The NYU men will face Emory in the 8 p.m. contest.

Both Foshag and Meziab, as well as Hunter College's Evgeniya Kim and Max Zamor, will be honored as part of this year's MLK Celebration Week theme, "Who will you inspire to dream?" All of the award recipients are being recognized for their commitment to academics and community service.

After the ceremony, Foshag and the Violets (8-6, 0-3 UAA) will look to snap a two-game losing skid while hoping to defeat Emory (8-6, 1-2 UAA) for the third straight time after sweeping the 2009 season series.

Meziab and the NYU men (10-4, 1-2 UAA) lost tough contests at UAA rivals the University of Chicago and #4-ranked Washington University last weekend and will face an improved Eagles' (10-4, 2-1 UAA) squad.  The Violets split with Emory last season as each team won on the opposition's homecourt.
