New York University's men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Preseason Poll conducted by the Association's coaches.
Four starters return for the Violets (17-11, 4-10 UAA), who garnered their fourth postseason invitation in five seasons last winter. NYU advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metropolitan Tournament championship game for the second time in three years.
Returning to NYU's starting five are starting guards and co-captains #D.J. Glavan# (9.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.3 apg) and Omar Meziab (5.8 ppg, 82.6 FT%), as well as Keith Jensen (11.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 37.8 3FG%) and Richie Polan (11.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 46.0 FG%, 82.7 FT%). Glavan earned Honorable Mention All-UAA accolades in 2009, while Jensen did the same in 2008.
Two-time defending Division III national champion and UAA titlist Washington University earned seven of eight first-place votes to finish as the near-unanimous choice to win the Association title. Brandeis University received the other first-place vote and was picked to place second, ahead of the University of Rochester, NYU, the University of Chicago, Case Western Reserve University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Emory University.
NYU tips off its 2009-10 schedule on Sunday, Nov. 15, when it hosts Stevens Institute of Technology at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center. Start time is 3 p.m.
