For the first time in NYU history, both the Violet men's and women's cross country teams will be competing at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship in the same season.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, in Highland Hills, OH. both squads will be running on the Highland Park Golf Course in quest of a national championship.

While the men's team has been successful on the national stage for the last several years, this is the first time that the women's team has qualified for the NCAA Championship race.

The men's team captured the National Championship in 2007 and finished 12th last season.  The Violets qualified for the race for the first time in 2003 and placed 21st, then followed that up with a 23rd-place finish in 2004.  In 2006, the Violets finished as National Runner-Up.

While the women's team has had several individual national qualifiers over the years, including its current top runner, Joan Kanarkiewicz, a year ago, an entire Violets' squad will be competing in the NCAA Championship for the first time on Saturday.

Both teams earned at-large bids to their respective championship races this season.  Each squad finished in third place at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship in Geneseo, NY, last Saturday.

The women's race will be 6,000 meters, while the men's race will be an 8,000-meter affair.
