In recognition of her stellar freshman season, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named NYU’s Kendyl Dunn Second Team Division III All-American.
A native of Austin, TX, Dunn was a dominant presence at the net all season for the Violets, who notched a 29-10 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship. She paced NYU with 511 kills, a .379 hitting percentage and 105 blocks.
Dunn received numerous accolades during her standout freshman campaign. She was named to the AVCA All-New York Region Team, selected the region’s Freshman of the Year and earned NCAA New York Region All-Tournament honors. Dunn was also selected University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year and was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the NYU Labor Day Invitational (9/5-6/09), the RIT Invitational (9/18-19/09) and the New York Regional Challenge (10/31-11/1/09).
During the season, Dunn was pegged as UAA Co-Athlete of the Week three times and was a First Team All-UAA selection.
In addition to Dunn, NYU’s sophomore setter Mina Baban was named AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. She led the Violets with 1,247 assists.
Baban was also named Second Team All-UAA and received UAA Fall Sport All-Academic honors.
