Kyle Green sparked a second-half scoring surge with an assist and a goal, helping New York University earn its first University Athletic Association (UAA) victory with a 2-1 win over Washington University on Sunday at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex in Staten Island, NY.

It was NYU's first victory over Washington since 2005, when the Violets recorded a 1-0 victory.

Green produced a career-best three points, all inside of a stretch of 9:26, after both the Violets (6-8-2, 1-3-2 UAA) and Bears (9-6-3, 3-3-0 UAA) struggled to create quality scoring chances in the first half.

NYU broke a scoreless tie at 53:06 thanks to its freshman connection of Green and Ronny Scardino. After a run up the right flank, Green gained possession and slid a pass across to Scardino, who one-timed it into the lower-left corner from atop the 18 for his second goal and a 1-0 NYU lead.

Green made it 2-0 after beating two defenders to a ball booted into Washington's third by Violet goalkeeper Marek Urbanski (7 saves), tallying his fourth goal while giving Urbanski a rare goalie assist.

Washington applied plenty of pressure to the NYU backline, finally converting at 68:56 when Harry Beddo banged home a rebound to cut the deficit to 2-1.

John Smelcer made one save for the Bears, who outshot the Violets, 16-9, and owned a 4-3 edge on corner kicks.

NYU will play its regular-season finale Saturday, Nov. 7, at UAA rival Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Game time is 11 a.m.
