Members of the New York University men’s fencing team had strong showings on Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Temple Fencing Collegiate Open in Philadelphia.
While no team scores were kept, several fencers took advantage of the opportunity to shine individually, with NYU fencers earning high placements in all three weapons.
In his first outing with NYU, freshman Phil Jamesson competed in the final round of eight and finished impressively in third place overall in foil.
In sabre, junior Hugo Rodrigues also had a strong showing by placing sixth overall. Junior Byron Neslund competed in the final round of eight as well, and finished in seventh place overall in epee.
The men’s success came on the heels of strong performances from the NYU women on Saturday, with juniors Amanda Rysling finishing seventh and Sophie Ciaravino coming in eighth in foil. Sophomore Lisa Verzino and junior Victoria Sheng finished in the final round of 16 in sabre and epee, respectively.
Both the men’s and women’s fencing teams will be back in action on Nov. 12, with the men hosting Stevens Institute of Technology and the women competing at home Fairleigh Dickinson University.
