Women's Individual Results

The New York University women’s fencing team members displayed impressive performances at the Temple Collegiate Fencing Open on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Philadelphia.

Several Violets had strong individual performances and advanced into the final rounds of competition.

“For our first meet I thought we got out to a great start,” said head coach Steve Mormando. “It was very positive with a strong showing. It was also a good experience for our younger fencers, as well.”

In foil, juniors Amanda Rysling and Sophie Ciaravino both finished strong by finishing in the final round of eight competitors, with Rysling finishing seventh and Ciaravino coming in eighth.

“Both Amanda and Sophie had good focus and concentration, and it showed with their performances today,” Mormando said.

In sabre, sophomore Lisa Verzino advanced into the round of 16 to lead NYU in that weapon. Junior Victoria Sheng finished well in epee as she also moved all the way to the round of 16.

The Violets’ men’s fencing team members compete all day Sunday at the Temple Open, and the women’s team will be back in action on Nov. 12 as they host Fairleigh Dickinson University.
