Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble Results

The New York University women's cross country team, ranked #34 in the latest USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division III Rankings, finished fourth in a field of 25 teams, including several other nationally-ranked squads, at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin, OH, on Saturday.

The Violets, with 174 points, finished behind only #2 Johns Hopkins University (62 points), #13 Case Western Reserve University (105 points) and #26 Oberlin (128 points).  NYU finished ahead of #16 The College of New Jersey (seventh place, 211 points).

As she has in every race this season, Joan Kanarkiewicz led the pack of Violets. She finished 11th in a season-best time of 22:01 over the wet 6,000-meter course. Kirsten Keller placed second for the Violets with her 21st-place time of 22:25, also a season best.

"Joan ran a great race, staying with the front group most of the way," said NYU head coach Nick McDonough."

Rounding out the scoring for NYU was Maeve Evans (42nd place, 23:07), Kerra Vick (47th place, 23:13, and Paige Zelinsky (53rd place, 23:21).

"Our third through seventh runners ran in a nice pack and continued to move up throughout the race," McDonough explained.

Overall, 220 runners competed amid the sloppy and cold conditions.

"We continue to step up and establish ourselves as a team," McDonough said. "I expect that we'll be a team to be reckoned with as the season winds down."

The Violets get back in action next Saturday at the Shore Athletic Club Invitational in Lincroft, NJ.
