Sparked by solid rounds from Mike Leibfried and David Su, the New York University men's golf team finished the first round of the NYU-Manhattanville College Golf Classic third out of 12 teams on a cold and blustery Saturday at Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, NY.
Leibfried carded a 73 on the par-72, 6,237-yard course, while Su shot a two-over 74 as the Violets tallied a 312 aggregate score, two strokes behind the University of Rochester (310). Leibfried tied for third individually, while Su tied for sixth.
Skidmore College finished with a team-leaderboard best 296, while Chris Dejohn's 68 paced the 67-player field.
Also for NYU's "A" team, Ben Kleiner finished with an 82, while Matt Riccio and Scott Dow Jr. each finished with an 83.
NYU also fielded a "B" team. Andres Thoma shot a career-best 72 to take second through the first 18 holes. Alex Laznovsky and Aakash Patel each tied for 37th with an 82, while Gabe Durkin tied for 57th with an 86.
The Violets will begin the second round Sunday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
