Co-captain Patrick Knight took second place in the 165-pound bracket as the New York University wrestling team competed at The Sunshine Classic, which was held in Oviedo, FL, on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 28-29.

Knight won three bouts before falling to Justin Bonitani of The College of New Jersey in 1:46 in the bracket final.

Two other NYU's wrestlers, co-captain Naum Shuminov (174 pounds) and Gregg Martino (141) were defeated in the semifinals of their respective championship brackets.  Martino wound up with a fourth-place finish, while Shuminov finished fifth.

Shuminov pinned two opponents, while Knight notched one fall.

All three wrestlers finished with three victories.

"While I was happy that Pat placed second, I was still a little disappointed that our guys were put on their backs too much," said NYU head coach Bruce Haberli.  "But, we faced the type of strong competition which could enhance our performance as the season progresses."

The NYU grapplers return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 3, when they face Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, beginning at  1:00 pm.
