Three Wrestlers Advance to Semifinals of The Sunshine Classic

Martino, Knight and Shuminov all in title hunt

Shuminov pinned both of his opponents on Sunday.

Three New York University wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals of their respective brackets at The Sunshine Classic, which is being held in Oviedo, FL, on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 28-29.

Co-captains Naum Shuminov (174 pounds) and Patrick Knight (165), as well as Gregg Martino (141) each won two bouts to advance to Monday's semifinals.

Shuminov pinned both of his opponents, while Knight notched one fall.

"It's great competition, a perfect meet for after Christmas," said NYU head coach Bruce Haberli. "Lots of nationally-ranked wrestlers and teams. No one leaves here without getting a minimum of five matches. Since there's no team scoring, our guys can just wrestle hard and recover some of their conditioning."

The grapplers, who have not seen any action since Dec. 6 at the RIT Invitational, return to the mat for Monday's competition beginning at 9:00 am.
