The New York University wrestling team split its dual matches on Wednesday night at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

After falling 38-3 to the College of New Jersey in their first match, NYU's grapplers evened the score with a 40-3 win over Yeshiva University to raise their season record to 2-1.

NYU won seven of eight bouts, five by pin, against Yeshiva

The Maccabees pulled within 6-3 as Isaac Kuyunov pulled out a tight 13-12 decision over freshman Matthew Boyd.at 133 pounds.

However, NYU went on to record pins in the next four bouts to put the match out of reach.

Pins were recorded by freshman Calvin Hawkes in a 141-pound bout, junior Elliot Smith in the 149-pound bout, senior Andrew Cotlov in a 157-pound bout, sophomore Matt Magill in the 165-pound bout, and senior Mark Shirian in a 285-pound bout.

In the first match of the evening, Magill was the team's only winner against TCNJ, defeating Joe Falco 5-2 in a 157-pound bout. Magill, who placed third at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl on Sunday, lifted his season record to 12-2.

The Lions, ranked #14 in the nation, raised its season record to 4-0.

NYU returns to the mat on Nov. 22 when it travels to Wilkes-Barre, PA to face Wiles University and McDaniel College. First match is scheduled for 11:00 am.
