New York University junior co-captain Alyxandra Mattison and sophomore Sophie Ciaravino earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Fencing Co-Athlete of the Week honors on Nov. 17.

Both fencers had a strong opening week for the Violets, with Mattison placing seventh in sabre at the Temple University Collegiate Open on Saturday. Mattison also went 2-0 against Farleigh Dickinson University in the Violets' season debut dual-match competition on Tuesday. She helped NYU post a 23-4 win in the second match.

Ciaravino placed a team-high sixth in foil at the Temple Open (the event was won by the reigning Olympic Bronze medalist). She also posted a 2-1 record against Farleigh Dickinson, helping the Violets compile a 5-4 foil record in the second match.

Ciaravino, Mattison and the NYU women's fencing team will be back in action on Dec. 6 at the Vassar College Invitational in Poughkeepsie, NY.
