Men's Basketball's Boone Becomes Program's First All-American in 40 Years

New York University senior center Jason Boone was named a Third Team All-American by D3Hoops.com, becoming the men's basketball program's first All-American in 40 years.

Boone is the 19th All-American in the Violets' illustrious history, and the first since Mal Graham earned national accolades in 1967. The 6-6, 257-pound native of Sugar Loaf, NY, is the first NYU player to earn D3Hoops.com All-American honors.

The reigning two-time D3Hoops.com East Region Player of the Year, Boone led NYU (22-6) to its first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Division III Tournament title. It was the Violets' first crown since capturing the 1934-35 Helms Foundation National Championship.

Boone started all 28 games this season and averaged 14.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game while recording 14 double-doubles. Meanwhile, his 66 blocks this season led the team, and helped set a new NYU career record of 206. Boone ranks 20th in Division III in blocks per game.

In addition to the D3Hoops.com honors, Boone's all-around excellence helped him earn First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) accolades for the second straight season. He was also a Second Team All-UAA selection in 2005 and was named the UAA Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2004.

Boone ended his career first in field-goal percentage (63.6), fourth in rebounding (841), fifth in free throws made (326), and tied for sixth in scoring (1,319 points).

On the single-season charts, Boone had the top four field-goal percentage performances, including a 68.8% conversion rate in 2005-06. His 66 blocks this season were the second most in a campaign.
